One of the prominent construction projects
was the expansion of the city by extending the
road networks northwards, along with building
Dusit Palace as the new Royal palace and center
of the Kingdom. The land to the north of the city
had been left largely abandoned prior to this
major project.
Within the boundary of Dusit Palace alone,
a network of as many as 50 roads was laid out.
There excluded more roads that connected
the Palace with other points in the city. All these
led to the growth and physical expansion of
Rattanakosin Kingdom.
ENLARGING SANAM LUANG
Sanam Luang had existed since Rattanakosin
Kingdom was founded. It was an open field
between the Grand Palace and the Front Palace
(Wang Na) and served the same purpose as
Sanam Na Chakravarti of Ayutthaya.
Sanam Luang has been used for cremation
ceremony for Kings and high-ranking members
of the Royal families. General public referred to
Sanam Luang as “Thung Phra Men” (translated
as the Royal cremation ground). Sanam Luang
was also used for rice growing. When there was
no royal cremation ceremony, Thung Phra Men
was left as an uncultivated natural land.
King Mongkut changed the name of “Thung
Phra Men” to “Sanam Luang” as he thought
“Thung Phra Men” carried an inauspicious
connotation, and was not suitable for this
location.
Sanam Luang in the early days of the
establishment of Bangkok had a trapezoid
shape, and had an area of only half of its present
size. The extra area added to Sanam Luang
was previously an area belonged to the Front
Palace. After Krom Phra Ratchawang Bowon
Wichaichan, holder of the Wang Na title under
the reign of King Chulalongkorn, passed away;
King Chulalongkorn abolished the title ‘Wang
Na’ and introduced the ‘Crown Prince’ title
instead. Eastern walls of the Front Palace were
demolished and Sanam Luang enlarged into an
oval-shaped as we see today. King Chulalongkorn
also ordered two rows of tamarind trees to be
planted around Sanam Luang following examples
of public parks he had visited in Europe.

仅 仅 是 登 喜 宫 殿 这 一 个 区 域 , 执 政 者 就 规 划 修 建 了 多 达 五 十 条 街 道
的 交 通 网 络 , 其 中 还 不 包 括 其 他 地 区 连 接 到 川 登 喜 宫 殿 的 道 路 。 总 而 言
之 , 当 时 不 仅 仅 是 在 社 会 经 济 方 面 得 到 了 蓬 勃 的 发 展 , 同 时 也 扩 大 了 拉
达 纳 哥 信 王 朝 统 治 区 的 版 图 。
皇 家 田 广 场 的 扩 建
在 拉 达 纳 哥 信 王 朝 初 期 就 已 经 皇 家 田 广 场 就 已 经 修 建 好 了 , 是 在 大
皇 宫 ( 前 王 ) 和 蓬 宫 圣 地 ( 后 王 ) 之 间 的 一 片 空 旷 的 土 地 , 其 作 用 与 大
城 王 朝 时 期 的 那 咋 洛 翁 广 场 的 用 途 是 一 样 的 。
皇 家 田 广 场 的 修 建 , 是 用 来 作 为 为 国 王 或 者 高 层 皇 室 成 员 举 行 葬 礼
的 地 点 , 以 前 的 人 把 这 个 地 方 称 之 为 “ 举 行 火 葬 的 田 野 ”, 有 时 候 也 用
来 作 为 皇 家 的 田 地 进 行 耕 种 。 但 是 如 果 没 有 葬 礼 需 要 举 行 , 人 们 口 中 的 “
举 行 火 葬 的 田 野 ” 就 会 闲 置 下 来 , 长 满 了 杂 草 , 成 为 一 片 自 然 的 沼 泽 地 。
后 来 拉 玛 四 世 下 令 将 “ 举 行 火 葬 的 田 野 ” 更 名 为 “ 皇 家 田 广 场 ”,
原 因 是 国 王 认 为 大 家 所 称 呼 的 “ 火 葬 的 田 野 ” 在 佛 教 文 化 中 具 有 吉 祥 的
意 义 , 与 这 片 土 地 的 实 际 用 途 不 相 符 合 , 所 以 下 令 让 大 家 把 这 个 地 方 叫
做 “ 皇 家 田 广 场 ”。
曼 谷 城 刚 刚 修 建 起 来 的 时 候 , 皇 家 田 广 场 所 占 的 面 积 是 一 块 四 方 梯
形 的 土 地 , 仅 仅 是 现 在 皇 家 田 广 场 面 积 的 一 半 。 皇 家 田 广 场 第 一 次 扩 大
的 原 因 是 当 波 沃 维 差 澶 士 官 ( 拉 玛 五 世 的 前 王 ) 去 世 后 , 拉 玛 五 世 并 下
令 将 这 个 职 位 取 消 , 而 用 皇 太 子 来 代 替 。 因 为 这 次 机 会 , 国 王 就 将 皇 家
田 广 场 扩 张 到 前 宫 的 位 置 , 并 且 打 破 了 前 宫 东 边 的 城 墙 , 然 后 把 前 宫 的
面 积 和 原 来 的 广 场 的 面 积 连 在 一 起 , 就 是 现 在 的 呈 椭 圆 形 的 皇 家 田 广 场 。
并 且 在 广 场 周 围 种 植 了 两 排 罗 望 子 数 , 以 便 有 乘 凉 的 地 方 , 这 也 是 来 源
于 拉 玛 五 世 在 欧 洲 亲 自 看 到 的 自 然 风 景 而 产 生 的 灵 感 。
佛 历 2425 年 , 为 了 庆 祝 建 立 王 朝 100 周 年 纪 念 日 , 拉 玛 五 世 把 皇 家
田 广 场 作 游 行 队 伍 使 用 的 位 置 , 还 举 行 为 期 三 个 月 贸 易 会 、 开 放 展 览 馆
等 等 。 除 了 这 些 活 动 以 外 , 拉 玛 五 世 还 用 新 建 的 皇 家 田 广 场 作 为 高 尔 夫
球 场 、 风 筝 赛 场 和 赛 马 场 等 等 。
