PLAYGROUND SAFETY

All City playground areas are unsupervised. Parents and guardians

assume all risks for children playing on equipment. Users are

cautioned that the shock absorption of falls onto the safety surfacing

is reduced by freezing temperatures and compaction due to heavy

use. The City regularly inspects all equipment for maintenance

purposes, however, we appreciate calls from the public notifying

us of any broken or vandalized park equipment when observed.

MILITARY HERITAGE PARK

Visit this passive landscape park located on the south shore of

Kempenfelt Bay recognizing Barrie’s military history and ongoing

relationship with CFB Borden. For more information, please visit

barrie.ca/parks.

WATERFRONT PARKING

All waterfront lots are paid parking 24/7 and your receipt must

be displayed in your vehicle at all times. Barrie residents require

a Resident Parking Pass in order to park for free at specific

waterfront areas. There are specific lots for vehicles with trailers

only. Please watch for signs.

WATERFRONT FITNESS EQUIPMENT

Visit Barrie’s six waterfront fitness stations, with locations between

Heritage Park and the Southshore Centre. The equipment was

generously donated by a number of local businesses. A map is

available via barrie.ca/waterfront.

SCULPTURE

Sculptor Ron Baird created the

Sea Serpent for the 1986 World’s

Exposition in Vancouver. Jean

Sellers acquired the piece and

her son Alexander, following her passing, donated the sculpture to

the City in 2016. It now sits in Heritage Park at the end of

Mulcaster Street.

DISC GOLF

Barrie’s 18 hole Disc Golf Course is open to the public at no charge

during daylight hours. The course is accessed from Ferndale

Drive North and parking is available through the Ferndale

Drive North water-tower gates entrance. For details please visit

The Official Map of Barrie contains information on facilities, parks,

trails, road network and schools. A enlarged Waterfront Map is also

included. Maps are available at City Hall, the Barrie Public Library,

PARKS INFORMATION

PARK REGULATIONS

The Park Use By-law (2019-059) and Animal Control By-law

(2010-035) are available at barrie.ca/bylaws. Highlights include:

1 No sales or offers of sales for goods, products or services

are permitted without a permit.

2 For the safety of all park users, golfing is NOT permitted in

City parks.

3 Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in City parks, except for

Special Event permits.

4 Motorized vehicles other than authorized vehicles are not

allowed in parks. This includes snowmobiles, motorbikes,

ATVs or automobiles. Bikes must remain on the marked

bicycle paths.

5 Fires are not permitted in public parks, except where

designated for such purpose by the City.

6 Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times and are not permitted

within the beach areas.

7 Damage or removal of any tree, shrub or plant is considered

damage to City property.

8 Feeding wildlife in a park must be authorized.

9 Bikes must have a bell or horn.

NO SMOKING OR VAPING ON CITY-OWNED PROPERTY

With Changes to the Smoke Free Ontario Act & City of Barrie

By-laws in 2018, everyone is reminded that no person is permitted

to smoke/vape outdoors on ANY City-owned property including

but not limited to facilities, parkland, playgrounds, sports fields,

spectator seating areas, ice surfaces, walkways or pathways etc.

This regulation applies whether or not a No Smoking/ Vaping

sign is posted. You may be permitted to smoke if the property

has a posted designated smoking area. Smoking/vaping

includes but is not limited to the use of all tobacco products, all

Cannabis products (both medical & recreational) and all Vapour/

E-Cigarette products. Visit barrie.ca/bylaws.

EVENT PERMITS

A permit is required to host a public event on City property. To

determine if a permit is required for your event or activity, please

contact the Special Events Office at (705) 739-4285 or events@barrie.ca.

FISHING ON THE WATERFRONT

Please note that fishing is NOT permitted in boat docking

areas such as the transient boat dock and the City of Barrie

Marina. Avoid areas where people are swimming. Fishing is

permitted in all other public areas around the waterfront with

the purchase of a fishing license required by the Ministry of

Natural Resources.

BOATING

Boaters should note ‘NO BOAT SWIM AREAS’ around Kempenfelt

Bay and the ‘DIVER DOWN’ marker, requiring a minimum of

30 metres ‘NO BOAT ZONE’ around the marker within the less than

10km/h speed zone. The ‘DIVER DOWN’ marker is located between

Centennial Beach and the Tiffin Boat Launch, representing the

J.C. Morrison wreck site.

DIVING

A designated scuba diving site is located near Centennial Park

marking the location of the J.C. Morrison, a paddle wheeler boat that

sank in 1857 as a result of a raging fire. The wreck rests in 9 metres

(30 feet) of water approximately 92 metres (300 feet) offshore.

Please refer to the Waterfront Map for the approximate location of

‘NO BOAT SWIM AREAS’ and the ‘DIVER DOWN MARKER.’
