YOUTH ARTS DROP-IN
2020 SEASON
One Tuesday a month, all year long
4-6 P.M. Free admission
We’re taking Youth Arts Drop-ins on the road! Each month,
there will be a different facilitator leading a workshop at a
different location around Barrie. The workshops will vary,
exploring visual and digital arts, music, drama, dance, poetry,
and more.
Expanding upon a pilot program featuring arts workshops
in downtown Barrie, monthly Youth Arts Drop-ins will be
scheduled throughout Barrie, partnering with various local
organizations that serve youth. By spreading further than
downtown this program will bring accessible, hands-on
experiences to neighborhoods, connecting under-served
families with artists and creatives from a wide range of
backgrounds and art forms. Not only will the program
introduce youth (aged 19 and under) to and expand upon their
understanding of a broad range of arts activities, it will provide
income to artists, organizations and venues across Barrie,
developing the local community.
Youth aged 19 and under are welcome to participate. All
materials are provided, however some workshops participants
are encouraged to bring their own special equipment.

WORKSHOPS
In an effort to assist the arts community in building
sustainable practices, the Creative Economy Department
offers workshops on a year round basis that are designed
to educate both individual artists and arts organizations.
Previous workshops have included social media marketing for
the arts, how to get published, taxes for artists, grant writing,
crowdfunding, busking, sound and lighting production and
auditioning for casting agents. Future workshops will aim to
round out previous years’ themes.
EMERGING MUSICIANS
PROGRAM
The Emerging Musicians Program is a partnership between the
City of Barrie, the Downtown Barrie Business Association and
the Ontario Musicians Co-operative that harnesses the talent
and drive of young and emerging musicians to animate the
downtown through busking while serving as a business and
skills incubator for the musicians. In exchange for their time
busking, musicians can collect tips, be hired for community
events and concerts, access free workshops and training,
and receive free marketing and promotions. Each year auditions
take place through a juried process and those selected are
scheduled for regular busking shifts. Auditions will take place
in March of 2020, and community performance shifts run from
June to September. To learn more about the 2020 auditions,
or to find out who has been selected, please visit

ROTUNDA ART DISPLAY

are accepted on an ongoing basis. Applicants’ work is subject to
