PARKS PROGRAMS
ADOPT-A-PARK OR TRAIL PROGRAM
If you’d like to help keep one of Barrie’s many parks free of litter,
you can register yourself or your group at barrie.ca/AdoptAPark for
a park of your choice. Our volunteers make all the difference!
COMMEMORATIVE PROGRAM
The Commemorative Program provides people with a way to
create a memory of a loved one or mark a special occasions, such
as births, anniversaries, and retirements with a commemorative
tree, plaque or bench placed in a park. Donation information
and forms are available at barrie.ca/parks. For Sunnidale Park
Tree & Plaque combo ($500), or for all parkland Native Tree Only
($350) donations, contact Service Barrie at (705) 726-4242 or
ServiceBarrie@barrie.ca. For Commemorative Benches ($1600), email
clare.maher@barrie.ca. Please note prices are subject to change.

The City of Barrie Community Garden program provides
individual garden plot rentals to Barrie residents. Gardeners are
able to re-rent the same plot annually. For details please visit
barrie.ca/CommunityGardens or call (705) 726-4242. Payment
is accepted by mail or Service Barrie, 1st Floor, City Hall at
70 Collier Street.
BOULEVARD GARDENS
Residents are required to follow the planting guidelines of
the Boulevard Garden Policy as set out in the Right of Way
Activity By-law 2012-173 and register their boulevard gardens
with the City. The City will notify residents of scheduled works
in order for residents to temporarily remove plants. No notice
can be given for emergency works. For more information, visit

BEE CITY CANADA
Barrie is the 30th Bee City in Canada. A Bee City is a designation
that connects people, places and pollinators. Our commitment is
to protect and create pollinator habitat, community education and
to celebrate our pollinators. Barrie’s first Pollinator Week will be
a family-oriented event with activities and interactive displays at
Sunnidale Park starting June 20, 2020.
Visit the south-east end of Sunnidale Park’s mowed area to find the
new Bee Hotel demonstrating habitat for native bees. Close by is
the mushroom-like “Three Amigos’ Sculpture by Derek Martin. For

SUNNIDALE PARK
The Wyman Jacques Arboretum was established by Barrie’s Garden
Club in 1974 at the north end of Sunnidale Park, and is now under
City management. It contains a 14 acre collection of trees, shrubs
and vines, with most species labeled for easy identification.
