HIGH FIVE ®
HIGH FIVE has helped people and organizations make a
difference in over 1,000,000 children’s lives, giving them ‘the
best way to play’.
HIGH FIVE is Canada’s only comprehensive quality standard
for children’s sport and recreation, offering a holistic
approach to healthy child development based in years of
research. HIGH FIVE holds true to the following five Principles
of healthy child development that the research indicates are
essential for quality programs.
• A Caring Adult
• Friends
• Play
• Mastery
• Participation
HIGH FIVE’s unique and proprietary approach is built
on a Quality Framework, consisting of:
• Training and Development for staff working in children’s
sport and recreation
• Program Assessments using the scientifically-validated
QUEST 2 Tool
• Establishing Policies and Procedures to manage risk
• Creating Awareness for parents of the benefits of high
quality programs for kids
HIGH FIVE works because of its comprehensive, evidencebased
approach to quality experiences for kids. Through
the use of HIGH FIVE tools, like QUEST 2, quality becomes
measurable, quantifiable and attainable. Organizations can
identify areas for improvement with confidence, program
satisfaction is increased and organizations enjoy the benefits
of meeting an increasing demand for quality assurance
certification.
Quality matters because research shows people are more
likely to stay active for life if they have positive experiences
in sport and recreation as a child. Through our national
network of delivery partners, we address societal challenges
like children’s mental health and physical inactivity,
educating our sector on kids’ cognitive, social and emotional
needs.
HIGH FIVE is available in French and English.
The City of Barrie is a HIGH FIVE Accredited Organization.
This means that we have achieved the highest recognized
level of quality and safety in children’s sport and recreation
in Canada. We put children first with a focus on quality and
healthy child development. We strive to ensure all programs
are led by caring leaders who place an emphasis on helping
all our participants to; make new friends, feel stimulated
through play, build confidence through learning new skills,
and feel like a part of the team through active participation.
CAMPS
for the fun of it!
The goal of the City of Barrie Recreation Programs
is to ensure all participants have a rewarding,
memorable, safe and fun experience while
participating in our programs.
If the guidelines on the right cannot be met, our Fair
Play Follow Up process will be implemented. Parent
conferences may be required to address concerns
at any step in this system. ** Physical aggression
towards another person or oneself may
require a temporary or full suspension from
program(s).**.
Providing a safe environment is a collaborative process.
We ask that parents/guardians share the following
rules/guidelines with their child/ren:
• Respect others and their property
• Hands off
• No bullying behavior
• Listen to the Leaders
• Stay with the group
• HAVE FUN!
• Use appropriate language
