Cultural Development OpportunitiesYOUTH ARTS DROP-IN2020 SEASONOne Tuesday a month, all year long4-6 P.M. Free admissionWe’re taking Youth Arts Drop-ins on the road! Each month,there will be a different facilitator leading a workshop at adifferent location around Barrie. The workshops will vary,exploring visual and digital arts, music, drama, dance, poetry,and more.Expanding upon a pilot program featuring arts workshopsin downtown Barrie, monthly Youth Arts Drop-ins will bescheduled throughout Barrie, partnering with various localorganizations that serve youth. By spreading further thandowntown this program will bring accessible, hands-onexperiences to neighborhoods, connecting under-servedfamilies with artists and creatives from a wide range ofbackgrounds and art forms. Not only will the programintroduce youth (aged 19 and under) to and expand upon theirunderstanding of a broad range of arts activities, it will provideincome to artists, organizations and venues across Barrie,developing the local community.Youth aged 19 and under are welcome to participate. Allmaterials are provided, however some workshops participantsare encouraged to bring their own special equipment.barrie.ca/WorkshopsWORKSHOPSIn an effort to assist the arts community in buildingsustainable practices, the Creative Economy Departmentoffers workshops on a year round basis that are designedto educate both individual artists and arts organizations.Previous workshops have included social media marketing forthe arts, how to get published, taxes for artists, grant writing,crowdfunding, busking, sound and lighting production andauditioning for casting agents. Future workshops will aim toround out previous years’ themes.EMERGING MUSICIANSPROGRAMThe Emerging Musicians Program is a partnership between theCity of Barrie, the Downtown Barrie Business Association andthe Ontario Musicians Co-operative that harnesses the talentand drive of young and emerging musicians to animate thedowntown through busking while serving as a business andskills incubator for the musicians. In exchange for their timebusking, musicians can collect tips, be hired for communityevents and concerts, access free workshops and training,and receive free marketing and promotions. Each year auditionstake place through a juried process and those selected arescheduled for regular busking shifts. Auditions will take placein March of 2020, and community performance shifts run fromJune to September.
