INCLUSION

INCLUSION 1:1 SUPPORT - PROGRAM

A 1:1 Support Staff is available to facilitate participation in all

City of Barrie recreational programs. Inclusion 1:1 Support is an

additional $74.00 per program, per session, in addition to the

designated program fee. Please register the participant requiring

1:1 support into the appropriate session. Support can also be

purchased in one hour increments by calling Inclusion Services

directly.

PARTNERS IN RECREATION

The City of Barrie welcomes support workers into our program

environments. All support workers must provide a copy of a current

Criminal Reference Check and be 16 years of age or older.

Please register the participant, not the support worker, into the

code that correlates with the session in which the participant is

registered and attending with external support.

ADAPTED PROGRAMS

Preschool

SOCIAL CORNER

In this fun and supported environment, children of all abilities

will work on social and communication skill building. While

connecting with new friends, the focus of this program will be

on the practice of turn taking and sharing, social interaction

with peers, and following simple group instruction. Preschoolaged

children will participate in a variety of engaging games,

arts and crafts, and other fine and gross motor skill activities. A

1:2 staff to participant ratio will be provided.

FUNDAMENTALS

In partnership with Special Olympics Canada, this program is

designed for athletes between the ages of 6 to 12 years old.

This program builds on the fundamental movement skills from

the Active Start program and introduces them in sport specific

settings. FUNdamentals will allow for participants to improve

manipulation, balance, and fine and gross motor skills while

promoting participation in structured physical activities. This program

begins introducing athletes with intellectual and physical

disabilities to sport-specific skills that will help them stay active

for life!

Youth

ACT SOCIAL - TWEEN

This program is in partnership with Act Social, an improvisational

theatre company designed to support individuals with special

needs. With Act Social’s improv sessions, students have the

chance to exercise their minds in a way they never have before.

With techniques taught, students will be able to enhance their

social, interpersonal and life skills through play, exploration and

expression. This program is open to individuals of all abilities.

Act Social will follow-up with registrants directly for more details

regarding the participant’s registration. Learn and have fun at

the same time with Act Social!

Age: 10-14yrs Classes: 8 Fees: $200.00
