ALPHABETICAL LISTING OF SERVICES
WATER SUPPLY
The City of Barrie is fortunate to have an abundant potable water
supply which consists of two sources; deep ground water wells and a
state of the art Surface Water Treatment Plant.
The Barrie Ground Water Supply System has grown from a single
well and reservoir to a system today of 12 wells in various locations
throughout the City. Barrie wells range in depth from 61 metres
below ground level at the elevation of Kempenfelt Bay to 110
metres below ground level further inland from the bay. The double
wall, gravel pack construction of the Barrie wells make them very
secure from bacterial contamination. The water treatment process
for well supplies in Barrie consists of chlorination for disinfection,
and the addition of sodium silicate, which is used to keep iron
in solution.
TRANSIENT MARINA
The City of Barrie offers a total of 50 spaces for transient docking
at the Marina and the recently upgraded Bayfield Basin Transient
Marina, which features a modern floating dock system. These
boatslips can accommodate vessels up to 60’ in length, and all have
30 amp power hook-ups and access to potable water.
Some of the transient docks may be reserved in advance by phone at
(705) 739-4218 or by email marina@barrie.ca. Visit barrie.ca/marina
for more information including rental rates, maps and amenities.
TREE PLANTING ON BOULEVARDS
In a new subdivision, it is the developer’s responsibility to
place boulevard trees. Residents on older streets can request a
boulevard tree by contacting Service Barrie at (705) 726-4242 or
ServiceBarrie@barrie.ca. Providing requests meet the utility set
back criteria, they will be placed on a waiting list for available trees.
Boulevard trees removed by Forestry staff are automatically added to
the waiting list.
TREE TRIMMING
The City’s Forestry section of Parks Operations trims trees
and bushes on boulevards and in public parks when they are
obstructing traffic signs, or the view of motorists at an intersection.
The City does not trim trees on private property. For more details,
contact Service Barrie at (705) 726-4242 or ServiceBarrie@barrie.ca.
Barrie’s Surface Water Treatment Plant was commissioned in
August of 2011 and draws water from Lake Simcoe (Kempenfelt
Bay) through an intake pipe nearly one kilometer from shore,
26 metres deep. Water is pumped to a low-lift pumping station
close to the shoreline, then up to the Surface Water Treatment Plant
located at 20 Royal Parkside Drive. There the water is treated using
ultra filtration membrane technology followed by chlorination to
maintain disinfection residuals before being sent to the distribution
system. These two systems combined with 6 booster stations,
3 in-ground reservoirs and 3 water towers ensure potable water is
supplied across Barrie’s 5 major pressure zones. Additional information
about each of Barrie’s water sources and treatment processes can be
found at barrie.ca/WaterServices.

WEDDINGS AT CITY HALL
The City Hall Rotunda or Huronia Room may be booked for weddings
on Saturday afternoons from (1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) for a fee of
$133.85 (HST included). The ceremony can be performed by the
marriage officiator of your choice. For further information or to book
a room call (705) 719-5970.
WATER HYDRANTS
Why not adopt a hydrant and take care of it in heavy snowfalls?
When high snowfalls make our hydrants invisible, some residents
take the initiative to shovel out their nearest hydrant. This ensures
them of quick action by the Fire Department in an emergency.
A contractor is responsible for clearing snow off all hydrants when
necessary, but with over 3,700 hydrants it is difficult to get to them
all quickly.
