ALPHABETICAL LISTING OF SERVICES
CREEK & WATERCOURSE MAINTENANCE
Parents should keep children away from creeks and watercourses.
They are dangerous, especially in the spring and heavy rains.
Call Service Barrie at (705) 726-4242 if you notice any obstructions
in creeks or watercourses and/or flooding, flooded ditches,
blocked culverts, flooded roadways, water backing up onto private
property, etc.
DOGS
All dogs must be leashed when not on the owner’s property.
The maximum length of the leash is 6 feet. Dogs may be walked in
all parks, provided they are on a leash, unless otherwise regulated
(i.e. waterfront parks). While in a waterfront park, dogs must be
kept on a leash at all times and are prohibited from entering any
beach area or an area where a change in landscape has been noted
i.e. sand areas (Parks By-law 2019-052). Please contact Enforcement
Services for more information (705) 739-4241. Dog owners are
reminded to always “stoop and scoop.”
PET LICENCES (LIFETIME)
Residents are required to register their dog(s) (cats are optional).
Enforcement Services staff regularly visit City dog parks to check for
pet tags. Anyone caught with an unregistered dog can face fines
ranging from $150 to $5,000.
Pay one fee to have your pet registered for their lifetime. The
one-time fee replaces the previous annual licensing fees.
Confirmation that your pet has been pre-vaccinated for rabies
will be required at the time of application. Register online via
barrie.ca/pets, in person at the Enforcement Services Office,
45 Cedar Pointe Drive, or Service Barrie (1st floor City Hall,
70 Collier) during regular business hours (weekdays, 8:30 a.m.–
4:30 p.m.) or call (705) 739-4241.

so important. Install and maintain them in your home. For more
information, including how to dispose of alarms, visit barrie.ca/
FireSafetyEquipment.

LAWN WATERING RESTRICTIONS
During summer months, water use in the City of Barrie is 40% higher
than at any other time of the year. Lawn watering restrictions are in
place to ensure that stores of water are not depleted, causing low
system pressures and insufficient reserves for fire protection.
Barrie’s lawn watering by-law limits watering by street address.
Even numbered street addresses are permitted to water on even
numbered days. Odd numbered street addresses are permitted to
water on odd numbered days. Lawn watering is only permitted
after 6 p.m. and before 8 a.m except during a temporary ban.
Temporary outdoor watering bans may be declared from time to
time depending on the amount of water consumed in connection
with the level of precipitation. Watch for public notices during the
hotter months for future information. For more details please visit
barrie.ca/WaterConservation.
1 Position sprinklers to avoid watering patios, driveways
and walks.
2 Sweep driveways and walkways instead of washing with a hose.
3 Keep the blades of lawn mowers sharp; dull blades tear the
grass, leaving it open to disease and heat stress.
4 Avoid cutting grass when it is wet.
5 Leave grass clippings on the lawn as they are an excellent source
of nitrogen.
6 Use mulch in gardens. Mulch keeps soil cool and moist, controls
erosion and discourages weed growth.
7 Aeration of lawns helps give soil a fresh start by reducing
compaction, improving penetration, drying wet soils and
helping oxygen and organic materials to reach the
roots, thereby maximizing the uptake of nutrients by the grass.
