Table 3 shows that there is a pre-dominance <strong>of</strong> Africans in pr<strong>of</strong>essional posts in <strong>District</strong><br />

<strong>Office</strong>s. Here, there is more racial representativity among Subject Advisors than among<br />

any other grouping.<br />

Age Pr<strong>of</strong>ile<br />

Information on age is critical to the educational establishment in the Province since, in<br />

terms <strong>of</strong> succession planning, the Department must ensure that <strong>District</strong> <strong>Office</strong>s are<br />

always fully capacitated with staff who are well qualified <strong>and</strong> experienced, <strong>and</strong> who are<br />

able to stay in <strong>of</strong>fice long enough to ensure stability <strong>and</strong> improvement in education. The<br />

Department must also seek to ensure that <strong>District</strong> <strong>Office</strong>s have the correct balance <strong>of</strong><br />

youthful enthusiasm <strong>and</strong> initiatives <strong>and</strong> maturity, experience <strong>and</strong> wisdom. To this extent<br />

data on age pr<strong>of</strong>ile gives reason for concern.<br />

Table 4 presents age categories <strong>of</strong> respondents by the job titles or positions <strong>of</strong><br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff in <strong>District</strong> <strong>Office</strong>s. Overall, the data shows that the complement <strong>of</strong><br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff in <strong>District</strong> <strong>Office</strong>s is aging without the necessary replacements being<br />

groomed at the <strong>District</strong> <strong>Office</strong>. Over 75% <strong>of</strong> all pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff in <strong>District</strong> <strong>Office</strong>s is<br />

above 46 years <strong>of</strong> age. Of this amount 61% is over 50 <strong>and</strong> 24% is over 55%. Almost<br />

20% <strong>of</strong> all pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff in <strong>District</strong>s is over 55 years <strong>of</strong> age. Subject Advisors are<br />

generally younger with about 42% <strong>of</strong> Subject Advisors over 50 years <strong>of</strong> age, while 55% <strong>of</strong>
