For readers <strong>in</strong> a hurry, this guide provides an overview of the differences between<br />

ISO 14001 and <strong>DIN</strong> <strong>EN</strong> <strong>16001</strong>, as well as between EMAS and <strong>DIN</strong> <strong>EN</strong> <strong>16001</strong>.<br />

<strong>DIN</strong> <strong>EN</strong> <strong>16001</strong> is essentially oriented towards ISO 14001. At the end of every paragraph<br />

<strong>in</strong> chapter 6, companies who have already implemented ISO 14001 will f<strong>in</strong>d an overview<br />

of relevant steps, which need to be additionally fulfilled to <strong>in</strong>troduce <strong>DIN</strong> <strong>EN</strong><br />

<strong>16001</strong>. In Annex B, you will f<strong>in</strong>d a tabular overview.<br />

As ISO 14001 is an important component of the EMAS regulation, the companies with<br />

an EMAS have the advantage of already fulfill<strong>in</strong>g more aspects of <strong>DIN</strong> <strong>EN</strong> <strong>16001</strong> when<br />

compared with the companies certified accord<strong>in</strong>g to ISO 14001. The few additional<br />

requirements that an EMAS registered company needs to additionally fulfil for<br />

<strong>DIN</strong> <strong>EN</strong> <strong>16001</strong> can be found <strong>in</strong> chapter 6. A tabular overview can be found <strong>in</strong> Annex C.<br />
