Contributions to U.S. Agriculture<br />

<strong>Research</strong> by Sergio Soltero and Isaac M.<br />

Ortega was directed at understanding the<br />

impact of short duration grazing and stocking<br />

rate on rangeland vegetation and native fauna.<br />

Contributions to Host Country<br />

B.S. graduates at four histitutions were<br />

assisted in their thesis work by Co-PI Felipe San<br />

Martin. Contributions to workshops in country<br />

were documented previously. Financial support<br />

of $8,475 was provided to a workshop in<br />

Cajamarca, Peru, as well as to Drs. Flores and<br />

San Martin to travel to sites in Peru as part of<br />

the JNIAA strengthening program.<br />

Linkages and Networking<br />

Texas Tech University financially supported<br />

Dr. Arturo Flores as Secretariat of the<br />

Andean Small Ruminant Network by providing<br />

$12,500 in salary and support services after the<br />

Program office officially closed. Texas Tech<br />

University was the only institution of the SR-<br />

CRSP in Peru to do so.<br />

A sabbatical/development leave was<br />

provided to Dr. Felipe San Martin to travel to<br />

the United States to work with PI Fred C. Bryant<br />

in analyzing research data. Total financial<br />

support was provided to Drs. Flores and San<br />

Martin to travel to the ALPA meetings in Brazil<br />

and give research paprs and present the<br />

Andean Small Ruminant Network idea to<br />

participants.<br />
