Servicemembers Opportunity<br />

Colleges<br />

<strong>UMUC</strong> participates in the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges’<br />

Degree Programs, SOCED, and SOC Degree Builder programs.<br />

For Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine personnel at the<br />

certificate and associate-degree level, they are SOCAD-2,<br />

SOCNAV-2, SOCCOAST-2, and SOCMAR-2.<br />

For Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine personnel at the<br />

baccalaureate level, they are SOCAD-4, SOCNAV-4,<br />

SOCCOAST-4, SOCMAR-4.<br />

SOC agreements will be issued to students after they have:<br />

• Paid the Application Fee.<br />

• Completed at least six semester hours <strong>of</strong> <strong>UMUC</strong> coursework.<br />

• Requested an Official Evaluation.<br />

The minimum number <strong>of</strong> semester hours needed with <strong>UMUC</strong>-<br />

<strong>Europe</strong> to earn a <strong>UMUC</strong> degree is 15 s.h. for the associate and<br />

30 s.h. for the baccalaureate. To earn either degree, students must<br />

maintain a grade point average <strong>of</strong> 2.0 (C) or better in <strong>UMUC</strong><br />

courses and satisfy minimum <strong>UMUC</strong> degree requirements. Family<br />

members may also apply for SOC agreements.<br />

<strong>UMUC</strong> participates in the SOCED program which is designed<br />

to help members <strong>of</strong> the military community prepare for eventual<br />

careers in secondary-level teaching and in the SOC Degree Builder<br />

program which helps servicemembers in various MOS/NER career<br />

paths plot their degree progress.<br />
