Minor in Business Administration<br />
The business administration minor complements the skills the<br />
student gains in his or her major discipline by providing a study<br />
<strong>of</strong> principles and techniques used in organizing, planning,<br />
managing, and leading within various organizations.<br />
Objectives<br />
The student who graduates with a minor in business<br />
administration will be able to:<br />
• Use critical-thinking skills in conducting research in business<br />
and management.<br />
• Apply analytical and problem-solving skills in resolving<br />
business management problems and issues.<br />
• Identify and apply key concepts and theories in business<br />
and management.<br />
• Employ effective written and oral communication skills,<br />
consistent with the business and pr<strong>of</strong>essional environment.<br />
• Develop innovative leadership and team-management skills<br />
necessary for success in a diverse and changing workplace.<br />
Requirements for the Minor<br />
A minor in business administration requires the completion <strong>of</strong><br />
15 semester hours in business administration, drawn from various<br />
disciplines as appropriate; at least 9 <strong>of</strong> which must be earned in<br />
courses numbered 300 or above. Specific course requirements<br />
are listed below. If a specific course required for the minor is<br />
taken instead to satisfy the requirements for the major, another<br />
course in the same discipline should be substituted to fulfill the<br />
required minimum number <strong>of</strong> semester hours for the minor.<br />
Any course used to replace an upper-level course should also be<br />
classified as upper level.<br />
Business Administration Coursework (15 s.h.)<br />
Foundation Courses (3–6 s.h.)<br />
Students without previous business experience must take the<br />
following course:<br />
BMGT 110 Introduction to Business and Management(3)<br />

BMGT 364 Management and Organization Theory (3)<br />
Supplemental Minor Courses (9–12 s.h.)<br />
To complete the 15 semester hours required for the minor,<br />
students must take three or more courses from accounting,<br />
business and management, environmental management, human<br />
resource management, marketing, or management studies.<br />
Business Law and Public <strong>Policy</strong><br />
Students may seek an academic minor in business law and public<br />
policy.<br />

The business law and public policy minor complements the<br />
skills the student gains in his or her major discipline by exploring<br />
and analyzing legal, social, environmental, technological, and<br />
ethical issues affecting business, industry, and government.<br />

Objectives<br />
The student who graduates with a minor in business law and<br />
public policy will be able to:<br />
• Discuss and analyze legal theories, concepts, and issues related<br />
to the conduct <strong>of</strong> business transactions.<br />
• Describe the integral and complex interactions among law,<br />
business, and public policy variables and their significant<br />
societal and ethical considerations.<br />
• Employ critical-thinking, analytic, and effective<br />
communication skills — developed through case briefings,<br />
presentations, and discussions — when engaged in problem<br />
solving.<br />
• Participate in collaborative strategies to encourage cooperative<br />
team efforts and enhance problem-solving skills.<br />
• Undertake pertinent research at a pr<strong>of</strong>essional level using<br />
computer-based technology.<br />
