Objectives<br />

The student who graduates with a major in management studies<br />

will be able to:<br />

• Use a multidisciplinary approach researching organizational<br />

problems, issues, and opportunities.<br />

• Analyze information, solve problems, and make decisions<br />

from a holistic, global perspective.<br />

• Apply important management concepts and theories from<br />

several disciplines.<br />

• Evaluate various strategies and operations for business, notfor-pr<strong>of</strong>it,<br />

and governmental organizations to determine the<br />

best approach.<br />

• Examine the global dimensions involved in managing<br />

business, not-for-pr<strong>of</strong>it, and governmental organizations.<br />

• Analyze global competition and competitive strategies.<br />

• Assess important trends in international ventures, marketing,<br />

financing, and human resource management.<br />

• Integrate the emerging online marketplace into overall<br />

organizational strategies.<br />

• Assess the significance <strong>of</strong> a multicultural, multinational<br />

organization.<br />

• Develop effective written and oral communication consistent<br />

with the management and pr<strong>of</strong>essional environment.<br />

• Apply appropriate information technology to analyze<br />

problems and issues, develop business research, report key<br />

data, and recommend management strategy and action plans.<br />

• Describe the history and development <strong>of</strong> theories and concepts<br />

in management and related fields (such as accounting,<br />

economics, statistics, finance, marketing, human resource<br />

management, business law, and strategic management), and<br />

their application to various management situations.<br />

• Evaluate ethical, social, civic, cultural, and political issues as<br />

they relate to the environment <strong>of</strong> organizational management,<br />

operations, human resources and human factors, information<br />

systems, governmental regulation, and domestic and<br />

international ventures.<br />

Requirements for the Major<br />

A major in management studies requires the completion <strong>of</strong><br />

36 semester hours <strong>of</strong> coursework in management studies, drawn<br />

from various disciplines as appropriate; at least 18 semester hours<br />

must be earned in courses numbered 300 or above. Specific course<br />

requirements are listed below.<br />

Students who do not have previous business experience must take<br />

economics courses:<br />
