We eventually married in 2000, Sarah was 2 years old, Calum was in her stomach,
and I connued to graduate a white-collar addict.
Jumping ahead to June 2009 we moved to Canada. A friend from Durban living in
Canada gave his boss my name and soon they sent me an offer of employment.
Life was good in South Africa, so we threw the idea around, and then a friend of
ours was murdered. So, we decided to go. Aer we packed up to sell everything,
most of what we owned was stolen out of our home and then a couple of weeks
later we landed in Canada with suitcases of clothes, very litle money, and a new
adventure.
We oen went to church, and Vanessa loved the church. So, I sat in the back or
stood and listened from the foyer, my body did not want to be in the sanctuary. I
had to fight myself to be in the building, it oen made me sick to the stomach. We
started going to Lake View Church, Vanessa loved it there, but I never managed to
connect so in early 2013 we started atending Life Outreach Church.
In April of 2013, Steven and Karla from House of Refuge Street Ministries visited
the church we were atending.
“God will use anyone who comes to him, turns from their old life, and follows
Him. I am one of His many examples.”
I hated my life; I hated where I was working, and I hated who I was. You see I had
picked up the bible and was searching it for answers, calling out to God if you are
real then fix this mess of life I live. I hated how abusive I was to my wife I didn’t
want to do the things I was doing, but it was all I knew, and the more I read the
Word the more it hammered into me that my life was a mess, and I wanted to die.
I was depressed, missed South Africa, and had no direcon.
One Sunday sing in the back row the Holy Spirit touched me, I was saying “God
if you there help me”, My life started running back and forward in front of me as I
sat there and sobbed. I realized God was really real and He was there, all the
knowledge I had of God became reality and I couldn’t bear to sit there in His
presence with sin. I said, “God I can’t be this anymore” and I broke down in tears
as I felt an arm go around me and the Holy Spirit whisper in my ear, “I love you”. I
said, “I can’t do this”, and He said, “I know, but together we can”.
