Four GCSE grades at 4 or above,<br />
including either English or maths,<br />
or a relevant qualification at<br />
Level 2 or appropriate experience<br />
plus an audition.<br />
Our dance provision at Gateshead<br />
College is delivered by a team of<br />
friendly and highly trained, expert<br />
staff. Supporting a rich timetable,<br />
visiting artists and key industry<br />
choreographers join us throughout<br />
the year, to help you build an artistic,<br />
creative, technical and professional<br />
skills set.<br />
You’ll also have the opportunity to<br />
visit key dance events annually,<br />
such as ‘Can You Dance?’ regionals<br />
and Move it - London. All our dance<br />
courses are designed to help you<br />
prepare for higher education and<br />
a sustainable career in the creative<br />
sector.<br />
You'll choose to specialise in either<br />
commercial, contemporary or<br />
musical theatre with the opportunity<br />
to also try elements from all areas.<br />
Commercial Dance<br />
What will I learn?<br />
This practical and physical<br />
programme will develop your<br />
commercial performance skills<br />
across urban/commercial, jazz,<br />
lyrical, ballet and choreography.<br />
Assisting with progression on to<br />
higher education courses, weekly<br />
singing lessons in contemporary<br />
and musical theatre will underpin<br />
your audition preparation.<br />
Theoretical sessions which focus<br />
on progression routes, training<br />
providers and potential dance<br />
employment will further develop<br />
your knowledge of the industry<br />
and help with the UCAS application<br />
process.<br />
Contemporary Dance<br />
What will I learn?<br />
Our contemporary course<br />
focuses on building technical skills<br />
and knowledge of the industry<br />
through technique, creativity and<br />
performance. Participation in<br />
contemporary, classical ballet, and<br />
technical jazz specialised classes<br />
is compulsory, along with the<br />
option to take additional classes in<br />
commercial and stamina classes.<br />
The course provides workshop<br />
opportunities with prominent<br />
industry dancers and<br />
choreographers, while our highly<br />
trained and experienced team<br />
will support you in building your<br />
artistic, technical and professional<br />
skills. Sessions geared around<br />
viable progression routes, training<br />
providers and potential dance<br />
employment will develop your<br />
knowledge of the industry.<br />
Musical Theatre<br />
What will I learn?<br />
This specialist pathway within<br />
dance will focus on the skills<br />
required in musical theatre<br />
performance. Working towards a<br />
UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in<br />
Performance and Production over<br />
two years, this exciting course will<br />
provide dance-based training in<br />
musical theatre and will enable you<br />
to progress on to a higher education<br />
course with confidence, secure<br />
in the knowledge that you are<br />
prepared for the rigorous demands<br />
of the industry.<br />
You will combine in-depth vocal<br />
and acting training with dance<br />
techniques in this unique pathway,<br />
tailored to explore material from the<br />
world of professional theatre.<br />
Throughout the course, you will<br />
have the opportunity to master<br />
the art of acting through song,<br />
combining disciplines that will give<br />
you the skills necessary to produce<br />
moving theatrical performances.<br />
You will learn new and challenging<br />
material for performance<br />
opportunities that will give you the<br />
chance to shine as you put what you<br />
have learned into practice.<br />
