Vocational study programmes & T Levels
What are the different levels of
vocational qualifications?
Level 1
Introductory or
beginner level.
Level 1 courses are
equivalent to GCSE
grade 1-3 and you’ll
need one GCSE to
study one of these
courses.
Level 2
Intermediate
level.
Level 2 courses are
equivalent to GCSE
grades 4-9 and you’ll
need three GCSEs at
grade 3 or above to
join.
Level 3
Level 3 courses are
equivalent to 3 A
Levels and you’ll need
five GCSEs at grades
4-9 including English
and maths to study.
For practical vocational courses including
construction, automotive, engineering, catering and
hair and beauty the highest level you can start at
is Level 2 as you won’t have the experience or skills
needed to go straight onto a Level 3 course.
