Recovery in the
extrusion market

Die Wirtschaftskrise hat im vergangenen
Jahr naturgemäß auch zu einem
drastischen Einbruch auf dem europäischen
und deutschen Aluminiumhalbzeugmarkt
geführt. Sowohl in
Europa (EU 15) als auch in Deutschland
brach der Markt für Press- und
Zieherzeugnisse um über 20 Prozent
ein. In Deutschland fiel die Produktion
innerhalb von drei Jahren um fast
ein Drittel.
Inzwischen klart sich der Horizont
etwas auf. Seit November 2009 weisen
die monatlichen Produktionszahlen
für Strangpresserzeugnisse wieder
positive Vorzeichen gegenüber den
entsprechenden Vorjahresmonaten
auf. Dies deckt sich mit Aussagen
aus Strangpressbetrieben, dass die
Kapazitätsauslastung wieder steigt.
Auch der Aluminiumhalbzeughandel
bewertet die aktuelle Geschäftslage
deutlich besser als vor einigen Monaten.
Die Erwartung, dass sich die
Geschäftslage weiter verbessern wird,
ist bei den Händlern in den vergangenen
Monaten stetig gestiegen.
Gute Gründe für die Strangpressindustrie,
optimistischer in die Zukunft
zu blicken. Gute Chancen, dass
die Bilanzen für das Geschäftsjahr
2010 auf breiter Front wieder schwarze
Zahlen aufweisen. Eine Stütze
für das Geschäft dürfte die Bauwirtschaft
sein; hier werden die Konjunkturpakete
der Bundesregierung auch
in der ersten Jahreshälfte 2010 noch
Wirkung zeigen. Viele Unternehmen
sind zuversichtlich, dass das
dynamische Wachstum in der Solartechnik
– ein inzwischen wichtiger
Markt für Aluminiumprofile – trotz
gekürzter Vergütungen bei der Stromeinspeisung
anhalten wird.
Wenig befriedigend ist die Lage
bei den Ausrüstern von Strangpresswerken
– beim Maschinen- und Anlagenbau.
Deren Auftragseingang lag
im Januar real drei Prozent unter dem
Vorjahreswert – kein ermutigender
Jahresauftakt. Positive Impulse kommen
aus dem Ausland (+6%), während
die inländische Nachfrage weiter
rückläufig ist (-17%). Die IKB Bank
rechnet für 2010 mit einem Anstieg
der Insolvenzen – als direkte Folge
der Wirtschaftskrise und als Folge
mangelnder Liquidität zur Vorfinanzierung
von Aufträgen.

In the past year the economic crisis
of course led to a dramatic downturn
in the European and German aluminium
semis markets. Both in Europe
(related to the EU 15) and in Germany,
the market for extruded and
drawn products fell by more than 20
percent. In Germany, production was
down by almost a third over a threeyear
period.
Since then, the outlook has become
somewhat brighter. Since November
2009 the monthly production
figures for extruded products have
been positive compared with the corresponding
months a year earlier.
This agrees with information from
extrusion companies that capacity
utilisation is on the way up again.
The aluminium semis trade too rates
the current business situation as substantially
better than it was a few
months ago. The expectation that
business will continue to improve has
grown steadily among traders over
the past months.
These are good reasons for the
extrusion industry to view the future
with more optimism. There are good
chances that balance sheets for the
financial year 2010 will move into
the black again across a broad front.
A prop for business should be the
building and construction sector, in
which economic stimulus packages
provided by the Federal Government
will continue having an effect through
the first half of 2010. Many companies
are confident that the dynamic
growth in solar technology – which
has now become an important market
for extruded profiles – will persist
despite curtailed subsidies for power
supply.
Less satisfactory, however, is the
position of extrusion plant equipment
suppliers. In January the order intake
of mechanical and plant equipment
engineers was three percent below
those of last year in real terms – so
no encouraging year’s upswing in
that direction. There is some positive
showing (+6%) from abroad, but domestic
demand is still falling (-17%).
For 2010 the IKB Bank forecasts an
increased number of insolvencies –
as a direct result of the economic
crisis and due to lack of liquidity for
pre-financing contracts.
