GAZİANTEP ZEUGMA MOZAİK MÜZESİ

Zeugma’nın Mona Lisa’sı
İkinci katta ise, müzenin en ünlü eseri bulunuyor. Simsiyah taşlarla
döşenmiş, dar bir labirent müzenin konuklarını, Zeugma’nın simgesi
haline gelen Çingene Kızı’na hazırlıyor. Labirent, yine simsiyah granitle
döşenmiş küçük bir odaya açılıyor; Mainad Mozayiği nam-ı diğer Çingene
Kızı karşınızda. Ürkek, hüzünlü ve meraklı gözleriyle, binlerce yıllık
bir bakış... Yarısı bir eşarbın altında gizlenmiş kumral saçları, kocaman
gözleriyle Çingene Kızı tüm ziyaretçileri adeta hipnotize ediyor. Üstelik
odada nereye giderseniz gidin o gözlerden ve etkisinden uzaklaşılamıyor.
Gözler, onu izleyeni takip ediyor. Nerede durursanız durun,
Çingene Kızı size bakıyor.
Ancak odadan ve etki alanından çıkınca farkediyorsunuz: Çingene Kızı
aslında küçükmüş! Tıpkı Leonardo Da Vinci’nin Mona Lisa’sı gibi...
Kendisi küçük ama unutulmayacak kadar görkemli bir eser. Yine tıpkı
Mona Lisa gibi, müzeden çıktığınızda bile sizi izliyor. Ve merak etmekten
kendisini alamıyorsunuz: Acaba o gözler nelere tanık oldu? Nasıl
yaşadı? Yüzlerce yıl öncesinden bugüne, belki de aynı gözlere sahip
Nizipli, Antepli kadınlara ne anlatıyor?

reminds us that justice, wisdom and love were eclipsed by war at the
time of the Romans as they continue to be today. In one hand, Mars
is holding a spear and a flower in the other hand. This composition
makes the statue unique, because for the first time, Mars is presented
with the symbols of war and life together, but the severe face
expression of Mars suggests that eventually the flower will be
overcome by the spear! Next is the mosaic depicting the Coronation
of Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, signed by an artist named Samsath
Zosimos, allowing us to happily move away from the idea of war.
Zeugma’s Mona Lisa
The second floor is housing the foremost piece of the museum,
symbol of Zeugma, the ‘Maenad’ Mosaic fragment, alias Gypsy Girl,
in a small room paved with black granite to which leads a narrow
labyrinth paved with black granite as well. With half of her brown
hair under a scarf, with the wary, sorrowful and inquisitive expression
of her eyes, she mesmerizes onlookers from the depth of a past
thousands of years away... Leaving the room, one realizes that the
Gypsy Girl mosaic was rather small in size. But she follows you even
after you leave the museum such as in the case of Mona Lisa,
another great work of art of small size. You keep wondering about
what she might have witnessed with her eyes, about how she lived
and what her expression evokes today for the women of the region
likely to have similar eyes...
