Rizzo's 1929 publication La pittura ellenistico-romana provides extensive visual documentation of frescoes, mosaics and other finds from Pompeii, but it is difficult to use as a research tool as published. Vander Poel intended to add indices, as well as precise find locations, bibliography, present locations and inventory numbers for the objects discussed. This project was in its initial stages. Research on the plates of Henri Roux and Louis Barré, Herculanum et Pompéi, undated Physical Description: 0.6 linear feet Scope and Content Note Herculanum et Pompéi, published in Paris by Didot from 1861-1863, was yet another massive visual compilation of Campanian material and as such presents the standard problems of inadequate documentation for modern researchers. Here again Vander Poel compiled information on original locations, bibliography, present locations and inventory numbers for the objects presented in the plates. The precise date of Vander Poel's research on this work is unknown.
