Research on the work of Antonio Sogliano, 1912, undated Physical Description: 0.2 linear feet Scope and Content Note Antonio Sogliano (1854-1942) had a long career in Pompeian studies, including a term as Director of the Excavations from 1905-1910. In 1879 Sogliano published Le pitture murali campane scoverte negli anni 1867-79 , a supplement to Helbig's Wandgemälde volume. In order to bring this research tool up to date, Vander Poel intended to add a bibliography and provenance information. The precise date of Vander Poel's work on this project is unknown. Also included here is a letter written by Sogliano with reference to the conflicts surrounding Ettore Pais. Research on Wilhelm Ternite, Wandgemälde aus Pompeji und Herculanum , 1839-1858, 1964, undated Physical Description: 1.5 linear feet Scope and Content Note Wilhelm Ternite (1786-1871) was a painter connected with the Prussian court. A trip to Pompeii and Herculaneum in the spring of 1825 led to a fascination with the surviving frescoes from these sites. Ternite copied the frescoes and planned a massive comprehensive publication. Eleven parts of Wandgemälde aus Pompeji und Herculanum were published from 1839 to 1858, but the project was never completed. Vander Poel intended to add information on provenance, bibliography and analogies for the paintings presented in the publication, but his work on this project appears to only be in its initial stages.
