INVENTORY OF THE HALSTED B.
VANDER POEL CAMPANIAN
COLLECTION, circa 1570-1997
Series I.B. Publications and other writing, 1890-1997, undated, bulk 1911-1960
Physical Description: 27.4 linear feet
Scope and Content Note
This subseries consists of circa 700 items (circa 2,500 leaves) relating to Della Corte's
publications and writings. All material related to the production of Della Corte's
publications -- notes, manuscripts, typescripts, photographs, drawings, proofs, reviews,
author's copies and offprints -- is gathered here, forming the larger portion of the
subseries. Given Della Corte's large number of publications, surprisingly little of the
actual production material remains. Author's copies of offprints, which Della Corte often
retained in multiple copies, constitute the bulk of the preserved material. Notes are
included in this subseries only when they are labeled as relating to a specific publication;
other notes are included in the research materials subseries.
Della Corte's publication material is arranged chronologically by publication date. Due to
the overlapping nature of Della Corte's articles, photographic negatives are not listed
with individual articles, but are listed by topic at the end of the publication material
section. The manuscripts of Della Corte's contribution to the Corpus Inscriptionum
Latinarum, of which two fascicles were published posthumously, are of particular interest.
Various unpublished writings by Della Corte follow the publication material in this
subseries. Included are several unpublished manuscripts, or manuscripts that were later
published in a very different form, as well as pieces of unidentified manuscripts and
typescripts. The texts of a few short speeches, as well as an audio recording of a speech
given by Della Corte to the Rotary Club of Salerno, form the last element of this
subseries.
Vander Poel commissioned the addition of a brief summary of the contents to many items
in this subseries, as well as photocopies and translations into English of selected items.
