Scope and Content Note
Gli ornati delle pareti was a suite of 109 prints documenting paintings and mosaics from
Pompeii. These prints were originally published in three bound volumes from 1796 to
1808; subsequent printings up to 1838 produced varying editions. During the course of
his research on these prints, Vander Poel both acquired a volume of the prints and
commissioned photographs from copies of Gli ornati held in several libraries.

Scope and Content Note
Although labeled as Volume I of the original edition, this volume actually holds an
assembled group of prints. The title page for Volume I is used here, but the prints are
a mixture of those found in both Volumes I and II of the original edition, as well as
later reprints. Vander Poel has annotated the prints in this volume, adding
bibliographic information.
