This illustrates that applying the design sensitivities and being inspired by the rich
material of ethnographic studies, can lead to a similarly rich material of interaction
design.
I argued that the existing technologies mainly support the anywhere, anytime, anything
paradigm, as they do not reflect the context of where these mobile devices are moved
around. The prototypes concerning ‘connecting to a place’ were examples of slow
technology to or from specific places. The respondents in the study found it very well
suited to have this communication in the domestic environment. The finding here is that
there is a benefit in making some connecting interactions contextual, with different
means of communication according to the situation and place as well as a quality of
carrying out personal communication in the homely environment.
Related work pointed towards the relevance of having a range of communication
channels at hand, when being on the move. The prototypes that facilitate connections
through a shared experience were examples of this integrated into one system. The
prototypes utilized various levels of social interaction, by scaling the connection up and
down. The list of communication channels above shows a fraction of the opportunities for
means of connecting, where only few are applied in communication products today. For
example, one of the channels involved a shared media experience of listening to music
together. The highest level of social interaction is achieved when both people are engaged
with making a shared playlist while listening to the same music remotely. I claim that the
