The Bubbling interaction concerns shutting out context and is widely supported through technology today. The bubbling tactic is however very excluding, as it is mainly personal devices that are made for this purpose. The potentials lie in designing for social bubbles that can be established for multiple people in varying contexts, very much in line with the experimental design from the avant-‐garde movements from the 60s. The Artifacting interaction is not so widely supported through technology, but met through crafts and other tangible products, as people obtain home feeling through sensuous products. There is a wide potential of researching this tactic further as it was only discovered late in the process of this dissertation work, and therefore not so deeply investigated through neither interviews nor experiments. Artifacting can be met through design sensitivities towards supporting self-‐expression and means for establishing an atmosphere of warmth through the artifact. The Differentiating interaction concerns contextualizing the home feeling, as the tactic is a reflection of the place they are situated. This is the only tactic that does not try to overcome the travel activity, but embrace it. This differentiating interaction is supported by contextual design that is found on mobile devices and the potentials lie in supporting this tactic better through the content on these devices as well as transformations of the physical products, perhaps through shape changing interfaces. The Doubling Interaction concerns copying things from the primary home. The potential for this interaction is being widely treated at the moment, as cloud services make content accessible anywhere at any time. The Rhythming Interaction is the continuation that goes beyond the physical place. Not much design supports neither a global orientation towards time or the changes between time zones. Design that support repetition of activities and control of rituals will also meet the potentials in designing for Rhythming. The findings about Connecting Interactions point towards a whole list of implications by itself. This section is more of an opening towards applying the research beyond the Connecting Interaction. 135
7.1. Summary The reflections in the end of this dissertation concern the findings from the design experiments, the choice of methods and how it can be applicable for others. The design experiments regarding Connecting Interactions has led to design solutions that cover a rich variety of solutions that provide a home feeling through a range of communication channels. The choice of methods is founded in constructive research with a human-‐ centered design approach. The interviews acted as validation of the initial fieldwalks, though carried out through a different approach. The design experiments were carried out at a variety of completion and evaluation levels as different aspects are interesting to investigate in order to progress to the next experiment. Lastly this chapter provides considerations in regards of applying the Homing Interactions on other areas than Connecting. The details of the ethnographic studies are important to bear in mind when addressing the design sensitivities towards one or more Homing Interactions. Bubbling and Doubling seems to be addressed widely today, but there are potentials in making social bubbles. Territorializing, Artifacting, Differentiating and Rhythming are all Homing Interactions with unexplored opportunities for others to investigate. 136
