Origin and Breeding
Seedling selection: seed parent Liriope muscari. The seed parent is characterised by a
broad leaf width, medium leaf thickness and medium shoot density. Approximately
30,000 seedlings were grown in 1999. In 2001 4 plants were selected as having
desirable traits including narrow leaf width and dense growth habit. Finally in 2002
one of these plants was selected due to its narrow leaf width combined with purple
flower colour and dense, compact growth habit. Selection took place in Clarendon,
NSW. Selection criteria: narrow leaf width, purple flower colour, dense, compact
growth habit. Propagation: vegetative, micropropagation and division is found to be
uniform and stable. Breeder: Todd Layt, Clarendon, NSW.
