Conditions Trial conducted in open beds, plants propagated from cuttings, planted into 200mm pots filled with soilless potting mix, nutrition maintained with slow release and liquid fertilisers, irrigation by overhead watering, pest and disease treatments not required. Trial Design Fifteen pots of each variety arranged in a completely randomised design. Measurements From ten plants at random. RHS Chart - edition 1995. Origin and Breeding Seedling selection: seed parent ‘Big Blue’. The seed parent is characterised by a broad leaf width and a light violet coloured flower. Approximately 20,000 seedlings were grown in 2002 and then 600 grown on in the ground. In 2003 7 plants were selected as having desirable traits including narrow leaf width. Finally in 2005 one of these plants was selected due to its narrow leaf width combined with tall inflorescence height, purple flower colour and upright flowering habit. Selection took place in Clarendon, NSW. Selection criteria: narrow leaf width, tall inflorescence height, purple flower colour and upright flowering habit. Propagation: vegetative, micropropagation and division is found to be uniform and stable. Breeder: Todd Layt, Clarendon, NSW.
