Trial Design 10 entry trial in a row and column design with six replicates<br />

and two rows x 14m plots.<br />

Measurements Morphological measurements on 10 plants from each plot.<br />

Yield components and fibre quality measurements taken on a<br />

hand harvested sample of three consecutive plants. Fibre<br />

quality was measured on a Zellweger Uster HVI 900<br />

instrument.<br />

Origin and Breeding<br />

Controlled pollination: seed parent line 99469F1 x pollen parent ‘Pima A8’ in a<br />

planned breeding program at the <strong>Australia</strong>n Cotton Research Institute (ACRI),<br />

Narrabri, NSW. The seed parent line 99469F1 is distinguished from ‘Sipima 280’ by<br />

its segregation for resistance to bacterial blight. The pollen parent ‘Pima A8’ is<br />

distinguished from ‘Sipima 280’ by its susceptibility to bacterial blight. Single plant<br />

selection followed by progeny row and multiple environment trials were carried out.<br />

Selection criteria: plant habit, resistance to bacterial blight, verticillium and Fusarium<br />

wilt, leaf hair, lint %, fibre quality and yield. Breeder: Dr Greg Constable, CSIRO,<br />

Narrabri NSW.<br />
