The Varieties List which is revised annually in accordance with notifications received from Designated Authorities participating in the Schemes includes details of the maintainer(s) of the variety and the name of the country(ies) where the variety has been registered. The purpose of the Variety List is to provide an informative list, which is not limited and should permit the application of Rules 5.1, 5.1.1.1 or 5.1.1.2 for Basic Seed and Rules 5.2.3, 5.2.3.1 or 5.2.3.2 for Certified Seed in the different Schemes, pertaining respectively to Grass and Legume Seed, Seed Scheme for Crucifer and Other Oil or Fibre Species, Cereal Seed, Maize and Sorghum Seed, Sugar Beet and Fodder Beet Seed and Seed of Subterranean Clover and Similar Species. Attention is drawn to the different nature of the OECD Vegetable Scheme where seed is generally traded uncertified as Standard Seed. ORGANISATION FOR ECONOMIC Contents of the UPOV-ROM 2012/04 CO-OPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT (OECD) http://www.oecd.org Limitations The information on the varieties from the OECD List of Varieties converted into the UPOV format and included in the database of the UPOV-ROM does not cover all information included in the publication printed by the OECD. It is hoped that at a later stage part of that missing information can be incorporated in the database. The following information can therefore only be found in that publication: (i) Information on whether the variety is also registered or maintained in other countries; (ii) Information on the classification of varieties or other information (e.g. hybrid, inbred line, etc.) as added in the official printed OECD list by symbols. In order not to prevent the user of the UPOV-ROM from that information the whole OECD List of Varieties is reproduced on the UPOV-ROM in a separate pdf file which however cannot be searched by the software of the database but only by the Acrobat reader. As the OECD List of Varieties does not have the same kind of information as the lists of varieties in the Plant Variety Protection Offices, only the following items are included in the UPOV-ROM: Record status Country/Organization Code Variety identifier Latin name Common name in English Common name in national language Maintainer’s name Approved denomination Synonym to denomination Description of data fields Country or Organization Providing Information In item the two letters “QM” are used as code for the OECD. [On request of the Office of UPOV, the OECD has replaced its previous OE code with QM available in the ISO standard 3166 Index in order to avoid any confusion with a State which could be given the code OE by the International Standardization Organization.] Type of record and (variety) identifier In item the abbreviation ZZZ is followed by the two-letter-code of the country of the maintainer and the variety identifier.
