Respective information on applications for plant varieties shall be published in the Official Bulletin
“Intellektualdyk Menchik”, then registration and a title of protection granting
shall be realized.
The State Commission for Plant Varieties and Hybrids Testing shall maintain the State Register of
Plant Varieties and Hybrids, which are authorized to be used in the Kyrgyz Republic (VCU):

Duration of protection for all species is 20 years, except trees and grapevine: 25 years (pursuant to
the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic “Legal Protection of Selection Achievements” of August 8, 2006,
No. 155).
Animal species are also subject to be protected in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The List of protected selection achievements comprises more than 240 genera and species of
plants.
In current year the legal protection for all plants varieties shall be provided by the Decree of the
Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Kyrgyzstan is the WTO member since December 1998.
Kyrgyzstan is the ISTA member since 2003, the third re-accreditation on vegetables will be carried
out in August 2011. Therefore the State Seed Inspection under the Ministry of Agriculture is
entitled to issue International Quality Certificate for seed of 38 crops: cereal, perennial feed crops,
soya beans, rape, sugar beet, sunflower and others.
At present time Kyrgyzstan has jointed to 3 of 9 OECD schemes. Seed growing and soil control by
the abovementioned 38 crops are realized in accordance with OECD schemes.
