Date + denomination, approved<br />

A variety denomination is considered to be approved at <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> grant <strong>of</strong> rights (Date =<br />

grant <strong>of</strong> rights date). A denomination could not be changed after <strong>the</strong> grant <strong>of</strong> rights except<br />

under exceptional circumstances.<br />

Date + denomination, rejected or withdrawn ()<br />

A denomination may be rejected by our <strong>of</strong>fice or a new denomination proposed by <strong>the</strong><br />

applicant. In both cases it will be listed as rejected along with <strong>the</strong> date it was withdrawn or<br />

rejected.<br />

Breeder’s reference ()<br />

Date included with <strong>the</strong> breeder’s reference would always be <strong>the</strong> application date. An<br />

application can be filed with <strong>the</strong> breeder’s reference as <strong>the</strong> proposed denomination. In this<br />

case, when ano<strong>the</strong>r denomination is proposed <strong>the</strong> breeder’s reference will show up as a<br />

rejected denomination also ().<br />

Synonym <strong>of</strong> variety denomination<br />

Would only be included if <strong>the</strong>re is an application <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> same variety in a <strong>UPOV</strong> member<br />

country under a different denomination.<br />

Trade name<br />

Name used in commercial practice as supplied by <strong>the</strong> applicant.<br />

Application/filing date<br />

Effective date <strong>of</strong> application used by <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice, includes filing dates based on priority<br />

claims.<br />

Publication date <strong>of</strong> data regarding <strong>the</strong> application (filing)<br />

The date refers to <strong>the</strong> first publication <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> application details made in <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial gazette<br />

(Plant Varieties Journal). The journal is published four times per year (Date = publication<br />

date).<br />

Grant number/certificate number<br />

When a variety is granted rights, a certificate is issued with a unique number. The numbers<br />

began with 0001 and are numbered in sequence in <strong>the</strong> order by which <strong>the</strong> varieties are<br />

granted rights.<br />

Publication date <strong>of</strong> data regarding <strong>the</strong> grant<br />

Date that <strong>the</strong> notice <strong>of</strong> grant <strong>of</strong> rights is published in <strong>the</strong> Plant Varieties Journal (Date =<br />

publication date).<br />

Start date – grant<br />

Date that <strong>the</strong> variety is granted rights.
