The Law on the protection of New Plant Varieties and Animal Breeds entered into force on
January 4, 1997.
The certificate has a duration limit as from its date of grant:
30 years for tree and vine varieties;
25 years for all other varieties;
20 years for transformed inventor’s certificates.
When the variety meets also the requirements for economic properties in accordance with
the Work Regulations of the State Variety Commission, it is registered in the Register of
Varieties and in List A of the National List for Plant Varieties.
When the variety does not meet previously mentioned requirements it is registered in the Register
of Varieties
