A variety denomination is considered to be approved at <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> grant <strong>of</strong> PBR and/or<br />

addition to <strong>the</strong> National List. There<strong>for</strong>e in general items Date+Denomination approved<br />

() and Start date <strong>for</strong> PBR grant/NLI listing () are <strong>the</strong> same.<br />

Date + denomination proposed<br />

The variety denomination is proposed by <strong>the</strong> applicant. The date is <strong>the</strong> date when <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice<br />

received <strong>the</strong> proposal (). The publication is done in <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial gazette (Meddelande<br />

från Statens växtsortnämnd). The gazette is normally published in February, June and<br />

September.<br />

Breeder’s reference<br />

Reference given by <strong>the</strong> applicant at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> application. This reference may be <strong>the</strong> same<br />

as <strong>the</strong> proposed denomination.<br />

Application number<br />

Each application is given a number. The same variety might have more than one application<br />

number, one <strong>for</strong> PBR and one <strong>for</strong> NLI.<br />

PBR applications: A = Agricultural species, B = Horticultural species, F = Forest<br />

trees.<br />

PBR be<strong>for</strong>e 2006: A = Agricultural species, B = Vegetables, C = Fruits, D = Berries,<br />

E = Ornamentals, F = Forest trees.<br />

NLI applications: AR = Agricultural species, BR = Horticultural species, X =<br />

Conservation varieties, Y = Amateur varieties.<br />

NLI be<strong>for</strong>e 1971: GAR = Agricultural species, GBR = Vegetables.<br />

Publication<br />

The applications, denominations and decisions are published in <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial gazette<br />

(Växtsortmeddelande/Plant Varieties Gazette). The Plant Varieties Gazette can be subscribed<br />

from http://www.jordbruksverket.se/gazette<br />

Grant number<br />

For Plant Breeders Rights a certificate number is given.<br />

Start date - grant (protection) / registration (listing)<br />

Start <strong>of</strong> grant is <strong>the</strong> date <strong>for</strong> decision on PBR grant or acceptance <strong>for</strong> NLI.<br />

Start date – renewal<br />

For NLI only, year <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> last renewal, January 1 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> year following <strong>the</strong> year <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong><br />

acceptance.
