Type of record and variety identifier
The identifier identifies uniquely a variety which can have an application number for Plant
Breeders rights, for National List, or any other official study.
Species common name in national language:
This name is not always the translation of the botanical name. A botanical species is
sometimes split according to cultivation or use. Wheat for instance might be spring
type(blé tendre de printemps) or winter type (blé tendre d’hiver).
Date + denomination proposed, first appearance or first entry in the database
The denomination is proposed by the applicant, the date is the date the office received the
proposal.

The publication is made in the official gazette (Bulletin officiel de la protection des
obtentions végétales).
Since January 1, 1990, the gazette is published on the 10th of each month (except in
August). Before January 1, 1990, the gazette was not published each month. In such cases
the date given is not an actual date. The month given in the data is in fact the numbering of
the publication in the year.
Breeder’s reference
Reference given by the applicant at the time of the application. This reference may be the
same as the proposed denomination.
Application number
This is a number given by the Office (CPOV or GEVES) for each application. The same
variety might have more than one application number for a type of study (if more than one
application is filed for the same variety).
Publication date of data regarding the application
The publication is made in the official gazette (Bulletin officiel de la protection des
obtentions végétales).
