Variety denomination<br />

Variety denominations are proposed at <strong>the</strong> application or during <strong>the</strong> testing period but<br />

be<strong>for</strong>e <strong>the</strong> grant <strong>of</strong> PBR or listing. There<strong>for</strong>e varieties can occur without a denomination.<br />

In this case, a breeder’s reference allows to identify <strong>the</strong> variety.<br />

Three months after <strong>the</strong> publication in <strong>the</strong> Belgian gazette <strong>the</strong> denomination is approved if<br />

<strong>the</strong>re is no objection to <strong>the</strong> proposed denomination.<br />

Application number<br />

The application number consists <strong>of</strong> a five-digit number.<br />

The application number <strong>for</strong> PBR begins with 90000 with a maximum <strong>of</strong> 94999 except when<br />

an application <strong>for</strong> NLI <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> same variety exists.<br />

The application number <strong>for</strong> NLI “agricultural” begins with two numbers corresponding with<br />

<strong>the</strong> species number used in <strong>the</strong> Common Catalogue <strong>of</strong> Varieties <strong>of</strong> Agricultural Plant<br />

Species.<br />

The application number <strong>for</strong> NLI “vegetable” begins with 95000.<br />

The application number <strong>for</strong> NLI “<strong>for</strong>estry” begins with 96000.
