Variety denomination
Variety denominations are proposed at the application or during the testing period but
before the grant of PBR or listing. Therefore varieties can occur without a denomination.
In this case, a breeder’s reference allows to identify the variety.
Three months after the publication in the Belgian gazette the denomination is approved if
there is no objection to the proposed denomination.
Application number
The application number consists of a five-digit number.
The application number for PBR begins with 90000 with a maximum of 94999 except when
an application for NLI for the same variety exists.
The application number for NLI “agricultural” begins with two numbers corresponding with
the species number used in the Common Catalogue of Varieties of Agricultural Plant
Species.
The application number for NLI “vegetable” begins with 95000.
The application number for NLI “forestry” begins with 96000.
