(mobile): +56 2 9 9434 6838 E-mail: jaime.ibieta@@sag.gob.cl Description of the data fields Variety identifier Before November 1994 (Publication of our new Plant Breeders Rights Law) they consisted of a 5-digit number, starting at 10001 for agricultural crops and at 20001 for fruit crops. After November 1994 the identifier is the application number for all crops. The applications are numbered in sequence in the order received at the Office. Common name The name is that currently used in the country. Date + denomination proposed The denomination is proposed by the applicant, and the date, mostly identical with the date of application, is when the Office received the proposal.

Application date The date is that when the Office received the application. Grant number For PBR the certificate number is given. On the old PBR Law (before November 1994) the certificates were numbered in chronological order for agricultural crops and chronological order for fruit crops. With the new PBR Law (November 3, 1994) the certificates are numbered in chronological order once a year (e.g. 19/1995; 8/1996). Start date grant Date on which PBR was granted. In general items and are the same. Applicant’s name The name of the person or company who filed the application. Breeder’s name Natural or juridical person. Title holder’s name The actual holder of the grant. It may be an individual or a company. Other useful information On November 3, 1994, the Plant Variety Rights Law Act 1977 was replaced by the Plant Breeders Rights Law Act 1994. The Chilean PBR Law is applied to plant varieties of any botanical genus and species. At present Chile has a National List only for the most important agricultural crops.
