Losses in a motor system Motors may be driving loads much higher, lower, or more variable than those for which they were first specified. In practice, therefore, factories don’t configure production machinery really systematically. The first step in performance optimisation should be characterisation of the process load to determine its magnitude, duration and variability by hour and season.
