Hospital Accreditation<br />
All <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>hospital</strong>s <strong>in</strong> HSE <strong>Mid</strong>-West are participat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> accreditation scheme for<br />
monitor<strong>in</strong>g health care quality as adm<strong>in</strong>istered by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Information and Quality<br />
Authority (HIQA). The primary purpose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> accreditation process is to help management<br />
and staff to identify <strong>the</strong> strengths <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>hospital</strong> as well as areas for improvement. With this<br />
knowledge, healthcare providers can decide how to use <strong>the</strong>ir resources most effectively and<br />
develop short and longer-term plans to deliver a higher standard <strong>of</strong> patient care. The current<br />
accreditation status <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>hospital</strong>s <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Mid</strong>-West is shown <strong>in</strong> Table 31 53 .<br />
