An action plan for <strong>acute</strong> and community <strong>services</strong><br />

• Staff<strong>in</strong>g and workforce issues, e.g., <strong>the</strong> European Work<strong>in</strong>g Time Directive, changes <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

and deployment <strong>of</strong> NCHDs, scope <strong>of</strong> practice for nurs<strong>in</strong>g & pr<strong>of</strong>essions allied to medic<strong>in</strong>e, new<br />

roles, career development, team work<strong>in</strong>g and scope for fur<strong>the</strong>r flexibilities <strong>in</strong> staff<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

The review has been supported by a HSE Steer<strong>in</strong>g Group, whose membership comprises<br />

John O’Brien, Director <strong>of</strong> National Hospitals Office and Liam Downey, Chairman <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> HSE.<br />

Assigned to <strong>the</strong> HSE Steer<strong>in</strong>g Group has been a Project Steer<strong>in</strong>g Group, chaired by<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Paul F<strong>in</strong>ucane, University <strong>of</strong> Limerick, which has had responsibility for agree<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> terms <strong>of</strong> reference for <strong>the</strong> review, and monitor<strong>in</strong>g project direction and progress.<br />

Horwath/Teamwork was commissioned to produce a report on an <strong>in</strong>dependent basis.<br />

Members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Project Steer<strong>in</strong>g Group <strong>in</strong>clude:<br />
