otras de carácter sintético obtenidas de los plásticos que son las que usamos en la actualidad. Entre estas últimas destaca el nylon. que toma el nombre de la abreviatura de las dos ciudades donde se inventó simultáneamente: Nueva York y Londres. Aparecen nuevas aleaciones metálicas como la de plata y níquel o la plata de alpaca (Cu-Zn-Ni) mediante el galvanizado y se desarrollan nuevas técnicas de laminado que reducen el espesor y el peso de los hilos. Los tintes naturales han ido desapareciendo con el tiempo siendo sustituidos por los tintes artificiales derivados de la anilina, substancia descubierta a mediados del siglo XIX. A partir de ese momento se consiguió ampliar la gama de colores utilizados. La identificación de las fibras textiles, los tintes y la composición de los hilos metálicos con técnicas modernas nos proporcionan pistas sobre la cronología del tejido. En la actualidad los estudios textiles se apoyan en esos análisis para conocer en profundidad el tejido, métodos de fabricación y materias primas (fibras. metales, y tintes). La catalogación de los tejidos no puede basarse en criterios estilísticos y necesita de toda la información complementaria que defina técnicamente a esas producciones. TIPOS DE TEJIDOS Y TELARES En el proceso de tejer. los hilos dispuestos de manera vertical (urdimbre) constituyen la parte pasiva del tejido, que normalmente permanece fija en el telar, mientras que los hilos horizontales (trama), la parte activa, son los que se entrecruzan con la urdimbre. Según sea el tipo de entrecruzamiento se obtendrá un tipo diferente de tejido o ligamento. Tres son los ligamentos de base: el lienzo o tafetán, la sarga y el raso (Fig. 12). El tafetán, cuando es un tejido de seda, o lienzo en el resto de fibras, es el más sencillo de los ligamentos: la trama y la urdimbre se cruzan alternativamente en cada hilo.
