The number of French passengers who
boarded a cruise in 2013, an increase of 8%
since 2012, according to the Cruise Lines
International Association (CLIA). Although
the French cruise market is still 9 th in the
world and 5 th in Europe, it has grown by
67.7% these last five years, one of the most
remarkable global increases.

ces cinq dernières années, l’une des hausses
mondiales les plus remarquables.

After two years and three months of work, the
Costa Concordia returned to its port of origin
at the end of July 2014.
Worth €1.5 bn, the refloating of the ship
will remain the most expensive recovery of
maritime history coming in at three times the
cost of construction (€450 m).
Après deux ans et trois mois de travaux,
le Costa Concordia a rejoint son port
d’origine fin juillet 2014. A 1,5 milliard
d’euros, le renflouement du navire restera
comme l’opération de récupération la plus
chère de l’histoire maritime.
Il aura coûté trois fois son coût de
construction (450 millions d’€).

jumped by 21% in 2013, being 232,000 cruise

of Saint-Nazaire amounting to €1.4 billion last

The world cruise market represents 21.3 million
passengers including 11 million Americans and
6.4 million Europeans (source: CLIA).
In 2014, 24 new ships will arrive on the market
for a total investment of $8 bn bringing the total
up to 410 ships in the world fleet.
The capacities deployed by companies in Europe
have declined significantly in 2014 compared
with the previous year to cope with the drop in
demand in Spain and Italy. Conversely, they
have made progress in the Caribbean and in the
Asia-Pacific region, now considered the Eldorado
future of the cruise industry.
