SUR LES CHAPEAUX DE ROUE
-/ At top speed
On ne répètera jamais assez combien
l’avènement d’internet a profondément
habitat genevois naturel.
printemps. »
En cette fin d’année 2012, Alexandre
Farago repart en piste avec toute une
série d’événements qui s’axe clairement
autour d’un concept de marketing de
proximité.
Le voilà donc qui nous présente Hubb,
peluche façon Roswell, dont l’étrange
tête orne déjà trams et bus. « On a joué
sur la date fatidique du 21.12.2012 et on a
créé un événement bien local autour de
ça. »
d’essence gratuits.
s’enthousiasme Alexandre Farago.
Nul doute que le marketing made in
Emil Frey Acacias saura se faire
remarquer dans les rues de Genève.
-/ It can never be stressed enough
how much the arrival of the internet
has profoundly changed consumer
behaviour. Nearly all of us have the
same reflex: spend hours on the net
looking for the best offer. So much so,
that the battle is no longer waged in a
physical shop, far from it: the deal is
often already done (or undone) before
the potential buyers have even
stepped through the door. The same
goes for car sales: customers now
arrive at a dealership knowing exactly
what they want. Dealers have to
redouble their ingenuity to attract
potential customers far beyond their
shop doors. Alexandre Farago, the
dynamic and talkative director of the
Emil Frey Acacias dealership in
Geneva, which sells BMW and Mini
(among other brands), has very clearly
chosen an original and cunning
communications strategy “to get
closer to customers in a fun way”. The
marketing is events-based, and
focussed on the local area, reinforcing
the profile of Emil Frey Acacias in its
natural Geneva habitat, and includes
the famous “1 car = 1 tree planted”
initiative. “We’ve already planted 800
trees through this initiative, and we’ll
plant even more in the spring.”
As 2012 draws to a close, Alexandre
Farago is getting back on track with a
whole series of events, all clearly
centred around a concept of local
marketing. One of these concepts is
Hubb, a Roswell-style teddy bear,
whose odd head already adorns trams
and buses. “We played upon the
fateful date of 21st December 2012
and we created a very local event
around that.” So what’s the idea? A real
treasure hunt across the town, looking
for 200 Hubb teddies, each of which
earns the finder tickets to a concert by
an international star in June 2013, the
concert being produced entirely by
the dealership. Emil Frey Acacias is
also planning a promotional
competition to be advertised on the
rear of buses on Rue du Rhône, the
winners of which will receive 500 litres
of petrol. “The aim is to bring people to
us”, says Alexandre Farago with a grin,
and he’s not the kind of man to beat
around the bush. For that’s really the
crux of the matter, and it seems to
work, since these initiatives have
brought a 15% to 20% increase in
customer numbers. Emile Frey also
sponsors supercross, as well as some
competition climbers and several
charitable events, such as the
Telethon. “We’re trying to spark an
emotional involvement that’s different
from other dealerships”, Alexandre
Farago explains enthusiastically. No
doubt the very special marketing
practised by Emil Frey Acacias will
stand out in the Geneva streets.
-/ Homage to Passion and Homage to Talent are two prizes created by the
Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie in partnership with Julius Baer Bank. These
two awards highlight the careers of two exceptional people, and this year the
recipients are Jean-Claude Biver and Giulio Papi, who have worked tirelessly to
ensure that high-end watchmaking is defined by passion and knowledge. Jean-
Claude Biver, who was awarded the Homage to Passion prize, has left his mark
on watchmaking through his marketing genius and his communicative
exaltations. Master craftsman behind the renaissance of Blancpain, and of
Omega’s expansion, he then worked to boost Hublot’s renown, placing the
brand at the centre of the watchmaking chessboard. Giulio Papi, who received
the Homage to Talent prize, has distinguished himself over the years as a
watchmaker capable of grasping the moon. He’s been courted by many major
firms, including Richard Mille, A. Lange & Söhne, IWC, Frank Muller and
Audemars Piguet (who he joined) to design and build exceptional watches.
These two major watchmaking characters certainly know how to use their
passion and talent to keep the dream alive.
