Bourré de magnésium ou simple plaisir gustatif… désormais le chocolat dépasse ses vertus et devient Art !
réaliser une suite entièrement chocolat, La Suite Magnum, dans l’hôtel
parisien La Réserve. « Nous nous sommes consacrés à ce projet
pendant un mois non stop ! Nous avons eu la chance de travailler avec
une équipe véritablement pro, et bénéficié de la perfection japonaise
qui entoure Karl Lagerfeld ! » Une chambre 100% cacao avec mobilier,
tapis, lampes, fauteuil, bureau et, trônant au centre, un lit avec draps
de chocolat blanc et un homme allongé (clin d’œil à sa muse Baptiste
Giabiconi qui exhibe évidemment… ses tablettes de chocolat !) Une
installation chef-d’œuvre réalisée par deux artistes incontestés !
Parallèlement, un de ses combats est le locavorisme ou « consommer
local ». En tant que fervent défenseur de la cause locavore, Patrick
Roger pratique cette politique avec ferveur et cultive ses herbes, ses
aromates, ses baies et ses fruits rouges dans le potager de son atelier.
Proche de la nature, le chocolatier livre régulièrement des conférences
sur le sujet dont l’une intitulée Le locavorisme : là où ça pousse !

Inevitably, Roger’s choco-revolution is not confined to new recipes, flavours and chocolate
types. His signature art form involves sculpting the medium to create eye-catching works
that have attracted the attention of top names. Karl Lagerfeld commissioned him to create
a chocolate hotel suite (the Suite Magnum) for an ad campaign for Paris’s La Réserve hotel.
‘We worked on the project non-stop for an entire month,’ says Roger. ‘We were lucky to be
working with a team of top professionals, taking advantage of Lagerfeld’s quasi-Japanese
commitment to perfection.’ The result was a 100-per-cent chocolate bedroom, with
furniture, lamps, an armchair, a desk and – taking pride of place – a bed with white chocolate
drapes, and a life-sized, chocolate, reclining figure of Lagerfeld’s muse Baptiste Giabiconi
(proudly exhibiting his chocolate-bar abs, of course…). A masterpiece by two leading artists
in their fields…
In addition to all this, Roger is dedicated to promoting his treasured concept of locavorisme:
‘eat local.’ Putting his precepts in practice, he grows his own herbs, berries and red fruit in a
kitchen garden at his workshop. A devoted nature-lover, he also delivers regular lectures on
topics such as Le locavorisme: là où ça pousse! (‘Eat local: right there where it grows’).
We all know dark chocolate is good for you (it lowers stress levels and is packed with
magnesium); we know it’s delicious too. Thanks to to Patrick Roger, now we can enjoy it as
an artform in its right.
