Souvent associée à la sorcellerie, la médecine
traditionnelle a pourtant toujours démontré son
efficacité à Madagascar. En 2007 l’Etat, par le biais
du ministère de la santé, a reconnu officiellement
la médecine traditionnelle et a publié les textes qui
la régissent. Si les plantes médicinales ont déjà fait
couler beaucoup d’encre, les tradipraticiens méritent
à leur tour une attention particulière.
Une dizaine d’associations de tradipraticiens
existent à Madagascar. Si la Grande Île compte
près de 6000 tradipraticiens disséminés dans les
régions, seule la moitié est enregistrée auprès des
associations. Chaque année, la Journée africaine de
la médecine traditionnelle est célébrée le 31 août.
Bien que la médecine traditionnelle soit plus
accessible à la communauté, certains patients
restent réticents dans la crainte des charlatans.
«Pour quelqu’un ayant reçu ce don inné, il est
impensable de demander un quelconque paiement
pour les soins qu’il aura prodigués» selon Philippe
Randria, un tradithérapeute de 55 ans de la Région
d’Analamanga. Un premier indicateur qui permet de
trier le bon grain de l'ivraie. Comme il s’agit d’un don,
ce savoir-faire héréditaire doit être utilisé pour le
bien des concitoyens.
Often associated with witchcraft, traditional medicine
in Madagascar has actually proved its positive effects.
In 2007, the State, through the Ministry of Health,
officially recognised traditional medicine and issued
decrees to regulate it. While medicinal plants have
figured in a number of articles, skilful traditional
practitioners deserve particular attention.
There exist 10 or so associations of traditional
practices in Madagascar and while there are actually
close to 6,000 traditional practitioners, to be found in
all the regions of Madagascar, only half of them are
registered with one of the associations. Each year, the
traditional African medicine day is celebrated on 31st
August.
Even though traditional medicine is more accessible
to the community, certain patients remain reluctant
due to the existence of charlatans. “For someone who
received the gift for nothing, it is not acceptable to
request any kind of payment from patients who have
been healed” declares Philippe Randria, a 55-yearold
traditional practitioner exercising his activity in
the region of Analamanga. This is the first element
making it possible to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Since healing is a gift, the know-how is hereditary and
should be used for the good of the citizens.
