OL-flamme til Grønland
En gruppe nuværende
og tidligere grønlandske
eliteidrætsudøvere
har taget initiativ til et
projekt, der skal få den
olympiske flamme til
Danmark, Færøerne,
Island og Grønland
forud for Vinter-OL i
Vancouver i Canada i
2010. Hensigten er at
få lejlighed til at præsentere
Grønland og
de øvrige nordiske
lande for omverden, da
et stort internationalt
presseombud altid følger
flammen. Initiativet
sker efter, at Danmark
grønlandsk pres har
besluttet at følge de
internationale udtagelseskrav
til de olympiske
skrappe, danske udtagelseskrav.
mulighed for, at især
grønlandske skiløbere
På sigt er det initiativtagernes
håb, at Grønland
får sine egne idrætsudøvere
Olympic flame comes to Greenland
A group of practicing
and retired Greenlandic
elite athletes has taken
the initiative to bring
the Olympic flame to
Denmark, the Faroe
Islands, Iceland and
Greenland before the
next Winter Olympics
in Vancouver, Canada
in 2010. The idea is to
use the opportunity to
present Greenland and
the other Nordic countries
to the rest of the
world, since a large
international press
group always follows
the flame. The initiative
came about after
Denmark’s Athletic
Association, following
pressure from Greenland,
decided to follow
the international selection
criteria for the
Olympics and to drop
the harsh, Danish selection
criteria. This paves
the way initially for
Greenlandic skiers and
Taekwondo athletes to
take part in the
Olympics. In the long
term, it is the hope of
the initiative-takers that
Greenland will take
part in the Olympics
with its own athletes
under its own flag.
