A B S T R A C T<br />
This article, starting with a reflexion on social memory and its construction within the relationship<br />
between Fhotography and History, intends to analize the 'images' of the city of Rio de Janeiro,<br />
during colonial times, registered and divulged by the 19th century photographic production, taking<br />
as a reference the paradigmatic work of Victor Frond and Charles Ribeyrolles entitied Brazil<br />
Pittoresco.<br />

À partir d'une reflexion à propôs de Ia memoire sociale et de sa constructio parmis les relations<br />
entre photographie et histoíre, cet article veut analyser les 'images' de Ia ville de Rio de Janeiro<br />
à 1' époque colonial , enregistrées et divulguées par Ia production photographique du XIXème<br />
siècle, ayant par reference 1'oeuvre paradigmatique de Vitor Frond et Charles Ribeyrolles intitulée<br />
Brazil Pittoresco.
