Electronic databases: We will search the following databases: the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) on The Cochrane Library, MEDLINE (1966 to present), EMBASE (1980 to present), CINAHL (1982 to present) and LILACS (1982 to present). The search strategy for CENTRAL is detailed below. This will be combined with a highly sensitive search strategy for identifying RCTs for MEDLINE (Dickersin 1994) and EMBASE (Lefebvre 1996). Language: No language restrictions will be applied. Methods of the review The recommendations of the Cochrane Handbook will be followed (Alderson 2004). Two authors (Vital and Sen) will independently select trials found with the search strategy, extract the data, assess trial quality, and analyse the results. In case of disagreements, a third author (Atallah) will be consulted. If a consensus cannot be reached, the trial's author will be approched to resolve the issue. Until then the data will not be included in the review.
