<strong>Ege</strong> <strong>Eğitim</strong> Dergisi <strong>2011</strong> (<strong>12</strong>) 2: 83-104The Perceptions of the Turkish Language Teachers about TheirApplication Levels of Measurement and Evaluation and Their Viewson the Alternative ApproachesAbstractThe main aim of this study is to reveal Turkish teachers’ measurement andevaluation practices, the frequency of these practices are investigated. Thesample selected for this study is made up of 89 Turkish teachers working in theDüzce province. The most frequently used one were found to be project,performance assessment, observation, portfolio, group assessment, writtenexam and peer assessment. According to the teachers, the superiority of thestudent-centered assessment stems from its assessment of the process and itspower to reveal students’ individual and cognitive differences. The weakestpoint of student-centered assessment is that it takes too much time to apply andthe lack of time.Key Words:Measurement and evaluation practices, Turkish teacher.
