Emergency Department (A&E) or a minor injuries unit. These services are free to everybody.
If you need an ambulance, telephone 999 or 112 (this phone call should be made in English).
At night or weekends, you can contact a doctor through the out-of-hours GP telephone
5.5 Trauma and counselling services
If you are experiencing trauma or mental health issues, your GP can refer you to the
appropriate service. This could be a referral to Community Mental Health for psychological
therapy, psychiatry or community psychiatric nursing. If you are concerned about your child
experiencing trauma symptoms, you can ask your child’s GP for a referral to the Family
Trauma Centre or to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
There are free telephone helplines for people who are feeling depressed or suicidal. If you
do not speak English but can say - in English - your name, telephone number and the
language you speak, a follow-up call with an interpreter can be arranged:
Samaritans: telephone 116 123;

Lifeline: 0808 808 8000 (you may also need to give your address and your GP’s name).
